10.3.2026 Press release
In January 2026, the international food and beverage company Paulig announced its intention to consolidating spice production to Saue, Estonia, leading to the closure of spice production in Mölndal, Sweden. After completing union consultations in Sweden, Paulig has made the decision to move forward with the change.

By consolidating production to one site, Paulig aims to optimise capacity, production costs and the use of resources, while creating a more effective production setup for the future. The change will be implemented by summer 2027.

“The decision to close spice production in Mölndal is intended to strengthen Paulig’s long-term competitiveness. This will affect 95 employees in Mölndal  and our priority is now to support everyone affected throughout the transition. The close-down will be gradual, and production in Saue will be scaled up through a phased transition to ensure continuity of supply,” says Lenita Ingelin, SVP Branded Business Area at Paulig.

The closure of spice production in Mölndal will affect 95 employees, including all 86 factory workers as well as 9 roles connected to spice production at the Mölndal office.

The change will not lead to any redundancies at Paulig’s other sites in Sweden.  Paulig continues to operate its tortilla factory in Landskrona, its warehouse in Kungsbacka, as well as marketing, sales, R&D and other support functions in Sweden.

Paulig’s factory in Saue has been producing spices for more than 30 years, and is fully owned by the company, unlike the rented facility in Mölndal. It has room for expansion, which provides greater flexibility for the company’s investments and future growth.

Fact box, Paulig’s Saue factory:

  • Inaugurated in 1993 as one of the first foreign investments after the re-independence of Estonia.
  • Main product categories: Santa Maria spices, spice mixes, marinades and salsas.
  • Number of employees: 84 people.
  • More than 390 different products from over 200 different raw materials.
  • More than 80% of its production is exported to foreign markets.
