Paulig's purpose, For a life full of flavour, means so much more to us than just a taste experience. It comprises responsibility for the wellbeing of both people and the environment as well as our way of working. The food industry can play a crucial role in global climate and health solutions, and we have set ourselves the ambitious goal of being a sustainable frontrunner in our industry. For our part, we promote the sustainable future of food and inspire consumers to make sustainable choices while never compromising taste and ease.
Paulig Sustainability Approach 2030 is based on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and comprises three focus areas and ambitions:
Products and services which enable the health and well-being of people and the planet
Our ambition is that, by 2030, 70% of our sales shall come from products and services that enable the health and wellbeing of people and the planet. We are committed to developing our products in a healthier direction as well as innovating new products that are better for both people and the planet. Alongside systematically improving the nutritional quality, we take food safety and quality with the utmost seriousness.
Climate and nature actions
Paulig is among the frontrunner companies in the food & beverage industry, and we have science-based climate targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. In line with the latest SBTi criteria, including the Forest, Land and Agriculture (FLAG) guidance, we are committed to reducing our operational and value chain emissions by 43% by 2030 (across scopes 1-3) from 2018. In Paulig’s own operations (Scopes 1 and 2), we intend to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65%. We also strive to decrease FLAG-related emissions in our value chain (Scope 3) by 37% and reduce non-FLAG value chain emissions by 51% compared to the 2018 baseline. These efforts together will represent a 43% reduction across all scopes by 2030.
These ambitious targets further establish Paulig as a sustainability frontrunner and demonstrate our commitment to tackling climate change in line with the target of limiting the global temperature rise to a maximum of 1.5°C in our operations and value chain.
Along with our climate and nature ambitions, we have committed to work towards circularity. Our packaging development efforts promote circularity, but also the prevention of food and coffee waste. We are committed to the global challenge of reducing food loss and waste by 50% by 2030.
Fair and inclusive way of working
Our aim is to be a fair and inclusive partner and employer throughout our value chain. We focus on long-term collaboration in our sourcing. We source certified or partner program verified coffees. By the end of 2025, we have reached 98%, bringing us very close to our interim target of 100% sustainable sourcing by volume for the six key spices: black pepper, onion, Indian chilies, oregano, turmeric, and cumin. The goal is that all our raw materials from high-risk areas come from sustainable sources verified by external parties by 2030 and we are gradually expanding in coming years the scope from selected key spices to other raw materials in scope.
We are committed to continuously enhancing our understanding of human rights issues within Paulig and due diligence practices with our suppliers and partners. We are engaged in mapping human rights-related risks and developing processes and a holistic way of working with our suppliers and other partners throughout our value chain. Furthermore, we commit to striving for transparency in our key value chains.
We continue to develop our value-driven company culture to ensure that all our employees perceive Paulig as a fair and inclusive company. We want to excel in own personnel inclusion and have our own Diversity, Inclusion and Equity (DEI) policy to strengthen our commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.
